Abstract Paintings

The one subject I have done least of but currently has a 100% sales rate. I have completed only two true abstract paintings and both sold to the first person (apart from my wife) to view them. I used to be a sceptic, one of those who suggested that abstracts were produced by those who had no talent or could not paint ‘realistically’. Now, having completed some, I know the level of talent needed, the knowledge of colour mixing, balance and the placement of brush strokes needed to express your own thoughts and feelings. These are paintings that come truly from the inner being of the artist, a response to something seen or read or heard. This is why there are only two in my portfolio, true abstracts cannot be forced or ‘painted by numbers’ we have to wait for the inspiration and that only comes when it wants to.

It is strange how paintings come about. This started off as covering a bad painting with left over paint and developed into my first ever abstract that sold almost immediately. Wow!
